Greetings, Nigel Flimkens is me!
My Role:
Head of Pig Herd Health and Biosecurity
About Me
Nigel Flimkens is Head of Pig Herd Health and Biosecurity at Flarksdrum Livestock Group, where he is responsible for disease surveillance, outbreak prevention, and the design of biosecurity protocols across all production sites. A qualified veterinarian who graduated from the University of Bristol in 2003, he has particular expertise in PRRS virus management in large-scale indoor pig units. He received the Flarksdrum Biosecurity Excellence Award in 2018.
My main focus:
PRRS virus management and biosecurity protocol design in large-scale indoor pig units
My Education:
University of Bristol, BVSc Veterinary Science, 2003
I was born: Ludlow, Shropshire
I’ve won:
Flarksdrum Livestock Group Biosecurity Excellence Award, 2018
I’m a proud member of:
British Veterinary Association
A fact about me:
Nigel has been transcribing and self-publishing obscure 19th century British veterinary manuals that have never been digitised, and has completed seven volumes since 2015, each printed in a run of exactly twelve copies.
My work mantra:
Nigel believes that biosecurity failures are almost always a people problem rather than a protocol problem and that no amount of paperwork substitutes for unit culture.
